Position Overview:

Beacon MedVantage, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented, highly experienced Senior Medical Billing Specialist to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who thrives in a remote environment and possesses specialized expertise in optometry and medical billing.

This position begins as a part-time role (20 hours/week) for a 3-month introductory period. Based on performance and business scaling, this role has strong potential to transition into a full-time position (40 hours/week) by month 4 or 5.

Responsibilities:

  • Claims Management: Prepare, review, and submit clean medical and vision claims to insurance carriers (both primary and secondary payers).

  • Specialized Billing: Accurately code and bill for optometry services, vision plans, and general medical practices.

  • Denial & Appeals Resolution: Identify, analyze, and resolve claim denials, rejections, and unpaid claims efficiently to maximize reimbursement.

  • Accounts Receivable (A/R) Follow-Up: Monitor aging reports and actively pursue outstanding balances from insurance companies and patients.

  • Payment Posting: Accurately post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and write-offs.

  • Compliance & Accuracy: Stay up to date with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding updates, as well as industry compliance regulations (HIPAA).

  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for billing inquiries, collaborating closely with providers, internal teams, or client practices.

Qualifications 

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of dedicated medical billing experience specifically within optometry and at least one other medical specialty. Experience working within a billing agency or directly in-house for an optometry/medical practice is required.

  • Coding Expertise: Deep understanding of vision plans (e.g., VSP, EyeMed) alongside standard major medical insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers). 

  • CPC/CPB or COPC certification preferred

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management billing software. 

  • Remote Capability: Proven ability to work autonomously from a home office, maintaining high productivity and strict data confidentiality.

  • Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills for complex denials, and excellent organizational habits.
